How do you fix one leg being longer than the other?

Did you just find out or do you suspect that you have one leg longer than the other? That odd thing to be told about your body. You question if people can look at you and see that one side is higher than the other or if you walk funny...all sorts of things can run though you mind.

There are 2 different types of leg length discrepancies.
A Fix discrepancy is an anatomical difference from one leg to the other. This is easily diagnosed with a tape measure. You simply measure one leg and compare that measurement to the other side.

A functional (flexible) discrepancy is a difference that is directly related to the position of your pelvis from one side compared to the other.  It is normal to have movement in your hips and pelvis while you walk; the problem happens when one side gets stuck after rotating forward or backward.

Does it matter if one leg is longer or shorter than the other? YES!
Just like a car alignment if your hips are not level over a long enough period of time your body will find ways to make them level...one knee with constantly be bend or one knee will hyperextend, one of the arches in your foot will drop or elevate...and/ or you will have pain in your lower back
Cynthia called my clinic worried and overwhelmed about the right side of her lower back. She couldn’t put all her weight on that one side without feeling a sharp pain that made her feel as though her leg was going to give out on her. She had difficulty going up and down stairs, it was painful to lift her kids and forget about laying flat on the floor to workout. She was miserable.
After a conversation with me on the phone we scheduled her evaluation where we discovered that one of her legs was shorter than the other. I was able to show her some self mobilization exercises and stretches that got rid of her pain...but we didn’t stop there. We continued working to make sure we fixed what caused her hip to get stuck out of place to begin with then got her strong enough to run a 10K without any difficulty.
