If you’ve had knee pain while you run, I bet you’ve considered running with a brace. I frequently get asked, “Should I run with a knee brace?” “What if I wrapped my knee up really tight could I run?” “Which brace is a good one?” Rebecca had the same question when I met her. She’d been running with a knee brace for several weeks but found it very concerning that her knee STILL hurt while she was running. She thought she’d bought the wrong type of knee brace. After talking to Rebecca for a little while it was easy to tell why running was so important to her. Her running time was “me” time. You know, that time you get to mediate and reflex on the day, which helps her stay calm. After several weeks of not running she was feeling fat, stressed and overwhelmed.. and the thing she would usually do to cope with these feelings was painful and yet another source of anxiety. When we met she wasn’t able to run at all because of her knee pain. In fact she couldn’t even straighten her knee while sitting. Her primary care, who didn't look at her knee, ordered x-rays (no fracture) then prescribed rest and anti-inflammatories. Her final straw was not being able to run even with the knee brace. When she came in for her first visit we were able to find the root cause of her knee problems. After seeing her run with the knee brace I was able to see the brace was not stopping her knee from bending toward the other knee. Which means the brace was not doing what Rebecca assumed it was doing...stabilizing her knee. The good news is that from the information I got from Rebecca’s first visit we were able to came up with a plan to get her back to running...and after first stopping her pain, then correcting what caused the problem to start with, then making her resistance to having the problem return...Rebecca is training for a road race! She has her “ME” time back…. Do you or someone you know want this type of solution, call Dr. Molly or pick the option below that best fits your needs right now.
